Can someone please explain metastatic liver cancer to me? My mother has this type of cancer. I know that it means the cancer started in her colon and spread to her liver, but I don’t know much of anything else…What is the cure rate? Am I more likely to get this cancer because my mother has it? Is it curable? Any information would be great! Thank you.

Malignant Mesothelioma Information

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009
Lina Smith asked:

Malignant mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is quite rare; it affects only the thin wall of cells that line the internal organs and structures. This lining is called the mesothelium and malignant mesothelioma can manifest itself in three main ways. It can be pleural which affects the lungs, peritoneal which affects the abdominal cavity wall and pericardial which affects the lining in the heart. Experts believe that there is only one way to contract malignant mesothelioma and that is through exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that is highly toxic to humans yet was once used in abundance in the building and construction trades. It was used as it has a very high tolerance of heat and it is remarkably strong, it was also very cheap. It is made of fibres which are microscopic and can be airborne when ceilings covered with asbestos ***** or when it is otherwise exposed to the air. When fibres of asbestos get inside the body they cannot be broken down or expelled and this will result in serious scarring of the mesothelioma and inflammation. Once this scarring occurs it is only a matter of time before malignant mesothelioma takes hold in one of its various forms.

Symptoms of malignant mesothelioma can initially be quite hard to spot as they can be quite unnoticeable. As a result they can be passed off as being day to day illnesses and this can cause even more problems as this delay gives malignant mesothelioma even more time to take hold of a person. It has been known for people with malignant mesothelioma to live with their symptoms for up to six months before they seek medical help with them. Symptoms of the various forms of malignant mesothelioma can include – shortness of breath, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, persistent coughing with or without blood in it, abdominal pains, stomach pains, chest pains, pain in the lower back and in some cases swelling of the face and arms and a loss of sensory capabilities. As these symptoms are so wide ranging and often seemingly unconnected it is no wonder that it can be difficult to obtain a correct diagnosis. Experts now recommend that anyone who has had prior exposure to asbestos at some point in their lives gets checked out for malignant mesothelioma even if they feel fit and well. Doing this could vastly extend a person’s life who could go on to be diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma.

Treatment for malignant mesothelioma can vary and surgery should only be an option if the disease is diagnosed in the very early stages. Otherwise it is more common for a person to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy to attempt to control the malignant mesothelioma. Although there is no known cure for malignant mesothelioma it can be controlled for some time if it is caught in time. Otherwise the outlook is not particularly positive and the best that many people with malignant mesothelioma can hope for is to be able to manage their symptoms and pain with painkillers and other medication.

Mesothelioma is Deadly Cancer

Thursday, October 16th, 2008
Nick Johnson asked:

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that is caused by asbestos exposure and there are no findings to suggest that this cancer is caused by other sources. Many of the victims who are diagnosed with Mesothelioma were workers who were not forewarned of the dangers of working with asbestos. People who are diagnosed with Mesothelioma should contact a Rhode Island Mesothelioma lawyer to help them with a Mesothelioma lawsuit that can get compensation for them to help with the medical and financial bills that are a result of the diagnosis.

Mesothelioma is caused by a person inhaling or swallowing asbestos fibers that then become lodged in the body. These fibers are virtually indestructible and the body’s immune system can’t break them down or get rid of them. Mesothelioma is a progressive disease and many people only live for one or two years after diagnosis. Mesothelioma cancer compromises the immune system as well as the area in which the cancer has set in.

In most cases, Mesothelioma is in the membrane that surrounds the lungs, called the pleura. However, Mesothelioma can also attack the lining of the heart or the abdomen. While this type of cancer is rare, approximately 3,000 new cases are reported each year in the United States.

Any level of exposure to asbestos can cause Mesothelioma, even infrequent exposure. Para-occupational exposure, which is secondary exposure, can also leave a risk for Mesothelioma to the families of workers who work with asbestos materials. The asbestos fibers easily cling to hair, clothing, shoes and skin and are brought home, dislodged and therefore create exposure in the home.

Most cases of Mesothelioma can be traced back to asbestos exposure directly in the work place. Approximatley 20 years ago, the products that contained asbestos and asbestos materials that were used in construction and manufacturing were in high demand and used frequently, even though it was known that asbestos exposure could lead to progressive diseases such as Mesothelioma.

Throughout the Second World War, naval ship yards were fabricating many ships for the war, using a lot of asbestos in the manufacturing process. The product was used for construction in buildings and for the manufacturing of automobiles as well. Until just recently, products and processes that use asbestos were unregulated, although the risk factors were known and safety precautions could be taken. Many companies still continued to utilize asbestos in their practices.

Many of the companies who used asbestos provided very little education or protection from asbestos exposure for their workers, leaving them now on the hook for compensating the victims of this dreadful and deadly cancer.

If you or someone you love has contracted Mesothelioma, it is important to contact a Rhode Island Mesothelioma attorney to find out if you have a case justifiable for a Mesothelioma lawsuit. The biggest problem with the onset of Mesothelioma symptoms and diagnosis and the exposure to asbestos is the long period of time, approximately 20 years, between the two. This makes it difficult to diagnose the cancer as well as find the company responsible for the exposure for your Rhode Island Mesothelioma lawyer.

The symptoms of Mesothelioma include fluid in the chest, chest pains, difficulty breathing, and coughing. Because of the nature of these symptoms and the fact that they are so similar to other medical problems, they are easily mistaken for other conditions, which can delay the diagnosis of Mesothelioma cancer. For most people, the diagnosis comes much too late - conventional treatments for cancer such as radiation and chemotherapy prove to have little or no effect on the progression of Mesothelioma cancer.

The majority of victims of Mesothelioma can blame companies and bosses for whom they worked for their asbestos exposure, and many of the companies knew the dangers of working with asbestos, and still failed to take any safety measures or precautions to reduce the exposure to this toxic material for their workers. Mesothelioma is a devastating cancer to people who have it and to their families, physically, emotionally and certainly financially.

A Rhode Island Mesothelioma lawyer can help you with a Mesothelioma lawsuit for yourself or a loved one. A qualified Mesothelioma lawyer can track down those responsible for your exposure and illness and can fight with a Mesothelioma lawsuit to gain financial compensation. While the compensation is no replacement for a life, it can certainly help cover lost wages, funeral expenses, medical costs and pain and suffering that are caused by Mesothelioma.

Top Mesothelioma Lawyer in New York

Nick Johnson asked:

The incidence of mesothelioma has increased rapidly in New York for several reasons. One of these is the destruction of the World Trade Center, which released thousands of pounds of asbestos dust into the air. Anyone in the vicinity of the towers when they were destroyed is likely to have breathed some of this in, and is in danger of contracting mesothelioma. Unfortunately this is not he only source of asbestos poisoning, and many buildings that are still inhabited or being demolished are slowly leaking this deadly dust into the air.

So what is mesothelioma? It is a particular type of cancer that develops in the membranes of the lungs, heart and chest cavity. It can lead to inflexibility of the membranes, fluid buildup, internal bleeding and ulcers, but the one outcome of mesothelioma that is certain is death. There is no known cure or even an effective treatment, and all patients who contract this disease die within at least six months. Patients have been known to live to five years, but this is entirely unlikely.

Mesothelioma symptoms can vary, but most are respiratory in nature. They can include - but are not limited to - tightness in the chest, fluid buildup in the lungs or chest cavity, blood in the lung sputum, trouble breathing, fatigue, drowsiness, headaches and nausea. Many of these symptoms can present as a result of other illnesses that are far more common and less severe. The instance of lung cancer related to smoking is as high as 1 in every 1000 people in some states, while mesothelioma affects an average of only four people in every million.

As a result of the extremely small incidence of mesothelioma, diagnosis of this deadly disease is not easy. This is one of the contributing factors towards the high mortality rate for this disease, but a lot of doctors believe that once the asbestos contamination develops into mesothelioma there is nothing that can be done. The cancer is usually metastatic, which means that as soon as it becomes advanced enough it will move. If it starts in the bowel the tumors can reach the size of golf balls before they begin to cause discomfort. This is one of the reasons that mesothelioma diagnosis is so difficult.

Although it is little consolation to those living with mesothelioma you could be awarded a famous “mesothelioma settlement” if it can be proven that you condition is linked to previous exposure. This is a simple task of taking a biopsy from the area, and doctors can normally determine conclusively whether your mesothelioma resulted from asbestos, and possibly even where that asbestos came from! A top mesothelioma lawyer in New York can help you to win a large cash settlement if you have been the victim of asbestos neglect.

A mesothelioma lawsuit does not have to be a long and drawn out affair, and the clear-cut nature of these situations normally means that a mesothelioma attorney can arrange a settlement for you out of court. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, but certain law firms give the highest priority to mesothelioma cases because of the short life expectancy of those living with this disease. They believe that you should be able to enjoy your compensation, and they will make every effort to secure it as soon as possible.

The Johnson Law Group are passionate about mesothelioma cases, and are dedicated to securing the best cash settlements possible. If you do not want an annuity payment or structured settlement, then we will fight harder on your behalf and plead that your situation requires immediate compensation. Because the nature of a mesothelioma lawsuit you are far more likely to receive a lump sum payment than monthly or quarterly payments which will be of little use to your and your family.

If you are living with mesothelioma the Johnson Law Group expresses its deepest sympathy. We extend our hand to help you to fight against those responsible for your exposure to the deadly chemical asbestos and your subsequent ill health. There is no reason to keep quiet, and you can help to give thousands of other mesothelioma sufferers and their families hope by standing up against irresponsible landlords and industrial corporations.
