What Treatments are Available for Victims of Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is touted as deadly because most of the cases are in advanced stage when diagnosed and doctors have little solace to offer by then. Mesothelioma is promoted as deadly because most cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, when doctors have little to offer solace by then. Still doctors try to do their best to relieve the patients from severe pain of mesothelioma using advanced treatments. Even doctors are trying to do their best to alleviate the pain of mesothelioma patients using advanced treatments.

Surgery

Before considering surgery as one of the propositions for the treatment of malignant cancer, the health of the patient needs to be carefully evaluated. Before considering surgery as one of the proposals for the treatment of malignant cancer, the patient’s health should be carefully evaluated. The tests are performed to check whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body or not. The tests are performed to see if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body or not. Also evaluation of the patient’s lung and heart functions is done. In addition to assessing the patient’s lung cancer and heart functions is done. In case of the former, mesothelioma surgery can not be performed. In the first case, mesothelioma, surgery can not be done. Both the heart and lungs need to be properly functioning state for surgery to take place. Both the heart and lungs are functioning properly the state of surgery to take place.

Surgery is of two types: aggressive surgery (long-term control) and palliative procedures (relief of symptoms). Surgery is of two types: aggressive surgery (long-term control) and palliative procedures (relief of symptoms). Let’s define each of them separately. Let’s define each of them separately.

Aggressive surgery

Aggressive surgery involves removal of the lung, the pleura, the diaphragm and the pericardium by a procedure, which is known as extra pleural pneumonectomy. Aggressive surgery includes the removal of the lungs, the pleura, the diaphragm and pericardium for a procedure, known as extra pleural pneumonectomy. The intention to follow this method is to physically remove as much of the tumor as possible. The intention to continue this method is to physically remove as much tumor as possible. It is in fact adopting a bold method to do away with the disease-hence the name is “Aggressive surgery.” It is in fact adopting a bold approach to eliminate the disease-hence its name is “Aggressive surgery.”

This surgery is extremely complicated and involves high risk. This surgery is very complicated and involves a high risk. This is because of the fact that there are possible chances of death due to the same within a month. This is due to the fact that there is any chance of death for the same within a month. Extra pleural pneumonectomy is therefore normally performed on younger patients who are in good health and are in a position to tolerate the surgery. Extra pleural pneumonectomy is, therefore, normally conducted in younger patients in good health and are able to tolerate surgery.

Palliative Procedures

Palliative procedures are normally performed when the cancer is in its advanced form. Palliative procedures are normally done when the cancer is in its advanced form. These procedures are performed to control the symptoms of mesothelioma rather than cure them. These procedures are carried out to control the symptoms of mesothelioma rather than cure. Pleurectomy (also decortications) is the process to surgically remove the pleura. Pleurectomy (also decortication) is the process to surgically remove the pleura. This method reduces the pain caused by the cancerous mass and may also prevent the recurrence of pleural effusion (fluid collection which causes tremendous breathlessness). This method reduces the pain caused by the cancerous mass and may also prevent the recurrence of pleural effusion (collection of fluid that causes enormous shortness of breath). For patients suffering from peritoneal mesothelioma, complete surgical removal of the entire tumor is not entirely possible. In this case the surgery aims to extenuate the symptoms, such as ascites, in this case, the surgery aims to extenuate the symptoms, such as ascites,

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is the method in which drugs are used to treat mesothelioma. Chemotherapy is the method in which drugs are used to treat mesothelioma. It has been observed that this method is partially succesfull. It has been observed that this method is partially successful. This is because the patient recovers partially after using drugs or combination of drugs (In fact the efficacy of this method increases, if combination of drugs are used at the same time.) Some of these combinations have proved successful and new drugs are being developed for the treatment of this cancer. Radiation Therapy

In this method the tumor is killed by using radiation doses. In this method the tumor is killed by using radiation doses. However, with the help of this procedure, killing the tumor cells is quite difficult. However, with the help of this procedure, killing the tumor cells is quite difficult. This is because of the fact that it is difficult to specifically locate the malignant cells. This is due to the fact that it is difficult to locate the specific malignant cells. Also the heart, lungs and other organs may surround the same, and they are at the risk of getting damaged by the radiation dosage. Also the heart, lungs and other organs surrounding it, and are at risk of contracting the damaged by the radiation dose. However lower doses of radiation can be used to reduce the disease to a certain extent. However lower doses of radiation can be used to reduce the disease to some extent.

Dual Therapy

Both chemotherapy and radiation are used in conjunction after the performance of the surgery. Both chemotherapy and radiotherapy are used together after completion of surgery. They both help in killing any remaining tumor cells that were not removed by surgery and may also help in relieving symptoms of the disease like chest pain. Both help kill any remaining tumor cells that were not removed by surgery and can also help relieve the symptoms of the disease such as chest pain.

The treatment methods, which are described above, are direct ways of treating a person suffering from mesothelioma. The methods of treatment, as described above, are direct ways to treat a person who suffers from mesothelioma. However doctors and researchers are always on the lookout for new ways to treat mesothelioma. But doctors and researchers are always looking for new ways to treat mesothelioma. The necessity for the evolution of alternative ways to treat patients suffering from mesothelioma arises because of the complex nature of different types of cancers, and because patients respond differently to various types of medical care. Detailed Information on Mesothelioma

Sunday, August 24th, 2008
Juliet Cohen asked:

Malignant mesothelioma, also known as mesothelioma cancer is a deadly cancer that affects the lining of the lung (pleura), the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneum), and the lining of the heart (pericardium). The most familiar type of mesothelioma is pleural mesothelioma, while pericardial mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma are less frequent. Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles. The main cause of mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos, although other factors such as smoking may result in additional complications.

Smoking modern cigarettes does not seem to enlarge the risk of mesothelioma. Simian virus 40 (SV40) may act as a cofactor in the development of mesothelioma. There are five common types of mesothelioma. Four of are malignant cancers, and one is a benign condition. Pleural Mesothelioma type of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the lungs, known as the pleura. It is the most common form of malignant mesothelioma. Peritoneal Mesothelioma form of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the abdominal cavity. Pericardial Mesothelioma form of mesothelioma develops in the lining of the heart, known as the pericardium.

Testicular Mesothelioma is the infrequent type of malignant mesothelioma; to date, there have been less than 100 proof cases. Testicular mesothelioma develops in the tunica vaginalis of the *********. Benign Mesothelioma benign form of mesothelioma most commonly develops in the pleura. This is the only form of mesothelioma for which full cure and recovery is a probable outcome, though it may be a precursor of future asbestos-related problems. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and abdominal pain and swelling due to a buildup of fluid in the abdomen.

Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may comprise bowel obstruction, blood clotting irregularities, anemia, and fever. Treatment for mesothelioma depends on the sites of the cancer, the phase of the disease, and the patient’s age and normal health. Surgery is a common treatment for mesothelioma. For cancer of the pleura (pleural mesothelioma), a lung may be removed in an operation called a pneumonectomy. Sometimes part of the diaphragm, the muscle below the lungs that helps with breathing, is also removed. Radiotherapy may be used as part of treatment to try to cure mesothelioma.

Is it possible that recieving treatment for her cancer caused my grandma’s dementia?

Thursday, August 21st, 2008
Feldco asked:

Hey.

My grandma, who’s about 70, has recently (within the past month or so) received treatment for her ****** cancer (she had the ****** removed). Ever since she left the hospital she’s been very immobile and sluggish. I understand that the surgery took a lot out of her but its been almost a month since she got out. Now she’s been forgetting things and become basically immobile. She’s a diabetic however she’s always on top of her blood sugar.

I’m not looking for ways to help with it or anything, just what people think as to what caused her dementia.
If it helps, she never recieved chemo, the size of the cancer when it was found was small enough to remove it but then the ****** had to go to.

Asbestos and the Risk of Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Friday, August 15th, 2008
Lina Smith asked:

Asbestos is a natural mineral that was once used in the construction and home improvement industries. It was put on ceilings when it was mixed with aertex, it was used to make surfaces semi flame resistant and it was also mixed with cement as it is very strong. At one point asbestos was seen as a revolution for these industries as it was just so versatile – it was also deadly. No one realised at the time that every time they were exposed to asbestos that they were taking their life in their hands and putting themselves in grave danger. Asbestos is now banned but its legacy lives on in the thousands of people who are feeling the after effects of being exposed to it over the years.

Exposure to asbestos is directly related to certain types of cancer, including peritoneal mesothelioma which is cancer of the membranes in the abdominal cavity. Peritoneal mesothelioma is the second rarest form of mesothelioma and each year it is responsible for around 20% of the cases of diagnosed mesothelioma. As exposure to asbestos is the only known cause of peritoneal mesothelioma there are two main ways that doctors believe that it can actually reach the abdominal wall. One way is through the digestion of asbestos fibres which is actually easy than most might think. Once in the digestive system the asbestos fibres get stuck in the peritoneum and over time this can result in peritoneal mesothelioma. The second way that asbestos gets to the abdomen is through the lymph nodes and lungs when asbestos is inhaled. In some cases pleural mesothelioma will result in peritoneal mesothelioma ad the asbestos moves through the lungs and into the abdominal cavity if left untreated and undiagnosed for some months.

Suspicion of peritoneal mesothelioma is usually made when a patient exhibits signs such as pain in the abdomen, chest or stomach and many suspect hernias are actually created by a tumour caused by peritoneal mesothelioma. Often a misdiagnosis that does not include peritoneal mesothelioma can be made and this can have severe repercussions on the life expectancy of a patient. It is usual for someone who is thought to have peritoneal mesothelioma to have to undergo many tests to get a correct diagnosis and these tests are imaging scans and tissue biopsies.

Patients who are found to have peritoneal mesothelioma do not have a good prognosis. However if a diagnosis of peritoneal mesothelioma is made early enough they could have surgery to remove the disease and some cases it can extend a patient’s life span for a few more years. If surgery is not an option then chemotherapy or radiotherapy can help although there is no guarantee that this will make much of a difference. It is essential that a person with peritoneal mesothelioma gets the right kind of treatment for any pain that they experience so that they are as comfortable as they can be. Peritoneal mesothelioma, like the other forms of mesothelioma is highly unpleasant and hard to live with.

California Mesothelioma Attorneys Work Tirelessly For Asbestos Stricken Workers

Monday, August 11th, 2008
Nick Johnson asked:

What is in store for an individual who has been diagnosed with Mesothelioma, an aggressive cancer of the protective lining around the internal organs? Mesothelioma typically attacks the lungs and heart, with alternate organs less often. Mesothelioma is a needless and preventable disease.

California mesothelioma attorneys are stepping up to assist the victims of Mesothelioma. The majority of California mesothelioma victims are life long laborers, working in California factories, construction sites, demolition zones, and the automotive industry. Their daily sweat earned them a paycheck and a virtual death sentence. California mesothelioma attorneys are there to help them understand how the law can work for them, despite the government’s attempts to change the laws in favor of big business.

Mesothelioma victims have been fighting back since the 1930s, suing companies who knowingly and negligently exposed their employees to high levels of toxic asbestos. The government was certainly slow enough in addressing asbestos laws to attempt to protect workers from the threat of Mesothelioma.

The laws, of course, are not stringent enough and in most states the penalties for companies who are in violation if current asbestos regulations are not nearly punitive enough. Mesothelioma is a deadly disease of negligence and the direct cause of corporate executives who are entirely out of touch with the value of the American worker.

California mesothelioma attorneys have seen the atrocity with their own eyes and have worked tirelessly for their clients, feeling the family’s devastating loss in the end. These California mesothelioma attorneys have undergone the necessary education to provide sound, quality advice for people who are facing such an uncertain future.

Mesothelioma victims are reclaiming their dignity along with their rights via Mesothelioma settlements and Mesothelioma lawsuits. These settlements and lawsuits not only help to cover their medical expenses and leave their families financially secure, but they are paving the way for more stringent California mesothelioma laws and asbestos regulations.

While the government is trying to address the concerns of big business by restricting the victims of Mesothelioma right to sue, California mesothelioma attorneys are filing as fast as they can to create harsher penalties for companies who do nothing but expose their employees to the dangers of asbestos.

The families of Mesothelioma victims are retaining counsel and petitioning California mesothelioma attorneys for assistance in wrongful death lawsuits, changes in asbestos laws, and changes in the penalties for these companies. The government, however, has found it in their best interest to find ways to limit these claims as quickly as possible.

The government would entirely benefit from laws restricting California mesothelioma lawsuits. Mesothelioma attorneys are already petitioning the courts to restrict these laws to benefit the citizens of California rather than big business and governmental agencies.

Integrity for the victim has not been lost on the filing of Mesothelioma lawsuits. These are not frivolous or ridiculous lawsuits, these are lawsuits which are necessary in order to hold U.S. companies accountable for their business practices. These lawsuits are shaking up the government and proving that the American people are not willing to be victimized, especially not by our own government.

California mesothelioma attorneys are bringing to light the destructive nature of this disease and are announcing unequivocally that this preventable disease is no longer a casualty of big business. This country was built on the backs of laborers and veterans. Mesothelioma settlements are the green signal which screams from the headlines that those who have built this country are not to be left behind.

“There is no free lunch.” So often the perception of worker’s compensation lawsuits are misconstrued, the little guy doesn’t want to work any longer so he sues his company. The tables have turned, and asbestos related illnesses are the pivotal postcard sent to big business that no, sir, there is in fact, “no free lunch.” Companies and governmental agencies nationwide need to raise their level of human consciousness.

The Number Form of Mesothelioma: Pleural Mesothelioma

Saturday, August 9th, 2008
Nick Johnson asked:

If you go to the library, or do an internet search on the term pleural mesothelioma, you will discover that pleural mesothelioma is a disease affecting the lining of the lungs, or the lung pleura. If you research beyond the definition you will find out that doctors often refer to pleural mesothelioma as a cancer of the pleura. Mesothelioma data indicates that 75% of all mesothelioma cancers are of the pleural mesothelioma type.

There is fairly rampant misunderstanding that pleural mesothelioma is not cancer. Well, this is an inaccurate perception. Pleural mesothelioma is a not only a form of lung cancer, it is a deadly form of the disease. Pleural mesothelioma is caused by a disruption in the ordinary functioning of the serous membranes of the lungs. Pleural mesothelioma cancer attacks the serous membranes that surround a number of the organs located in the midsection of the body including the lungs.

It is becoming more common everyday to hear the term asbestos related lung cancer. This is pleural mesothelioma. The increase in awareness is happening because mesothelioma is preventable by avoiding exposure to asbestos or related products. Many employers though, chose not to discontinue the use of asbestos and related products thus, in actuality, caused employees to become at risk for developing some form of mesothelioma.

If you know someone or you yourself have mesothelioma, contact a mesothelioma attorney or lawyer as soon as possible. A mesothelioma lawyer will determine if it is appropriate to file a mesothelioma lawsuit. If the lawsuit is found in your favor, a mesothelioma settlement will be determined.

Now back to pleural mesothelioma, to be absolutely accurate the term asbestos related lung cancer is not scientifically appropriate. The rub comes in the fact that mesothelioma is a cancer of the membrane that lines the outside of lungs, not the lungs per se. There is an even more complicated distinction to be made between pleural mesothelioma and a condition known Asbestosis. Asbestosis is a kind of asbestos-related lung disease that does not start off in the lungs. It sort of migrates to the lungs from another organ. Only a physician can make the distinction between the two situations.

The serous membrane, mentioned earlier, is a part of the lining of other organs and when the serous of an organ in the abdomen is affected by mesothelioma, the diagnosis will be peritoneal mesothelioma. Another form of asbestos related cancer, or mesothelioma, is pericardial mesothelioma which is caused when the serous membrane which surrounds the heart has asbestos related cancer.

When you read about or hear the term secondary lung cancer, it is being used to describe the situation when mesothelioma has proliferated from the membranes or lining encircling the lung, abdomen or heart organs to the lung itself.

If you continue to read more about pleural mesothelioma, you will uncover another name or description of it is asbestos lung cancer. This term is also technically inaccurate because, as indicated before pleural mesothelioma does not begin in the lungs but it begins in the serous membrane that surrounds the lung.

Simply put, pleural mesothelioma is caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. Once these fibers are in the body they take root, in a manner of speaking, in the lining or the pleura of the lungs. The longer the asbestos fibers are rooted in the serous membrane the more likely a chronic inflammation will occur. This inflammation over time leads to the growth of other cancer cells and tumors. In some situations this condition also results in the development of asbestosis.

It is quite common to find pleural mesothelioma presenting itself with numerous tumors in the pleura. When these tumors grow large enough, they begin to affect the parietal surface which is an area inside and near the lung. They can also affect the visceral surface or area outside and away from the lung. It is most common to find parietal surface involvement.

Chest pain is the most frequent symptom of pleural mesothelioma.

Other symptoms include: shortness of breath or dyspnea, coughing and weight loss. Because the tumors associated with pleural mesothelioma develop quickly and increase the pleural space, the affected area of the body begins to collect fluid which causes significant discomfort and/or excruciating pain. It is this pain that is often the reason an individual decides to see their physician for help. This visit is most generally the catalyst for the diagnosis of the disease.

Mesothelioma Symptom Relief and Palliative Care for Breathlessness

Thursday, August 7th, 2008
Lina Smith asked:

Mesothelioma symptom relief is the central focus of care for the mesothelioma patient deemed incurable. Pain management will vary with each patient. The mesothelioma patient’s pre-existing conditions and exacerbating conditions are factors in determining the best mesothelioma symptom relief and palliative care plan available. However, there are similarities in mesothelioma treatment and symptomatic relief for pleural mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma and peritoneal mesothelioma.

Almost every cancer patient, mesothelioma cancer patients included, experiences painful difficulty breathing during the last stages of cancer. Medical studies have indicated that as many as 70% of terminal cancer patients experience painful difficulty breathing. With diseases such as pleural mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma and lung cancer, painful breathing and shortness of breath occurs during all of the cancer stages, not just the terminal stages.

Difficulty breathing is frightening for the mesothelioma patient, the caregiver and family members. The fear of imminent death and helplessness suddenly becomes unexpectedly more real. Mesothelioma symptom relief for breathing difficulties should include emotional care as well as physical symptom relief. Relaxation techniques should be taught, and it should be stressed that there needs to be adaptations to daily activities to reduce breathing difficulty. Lifestyle changes will be in order to control mesothelioma breathing difficulties, and the most stubborn mesothelioma patients need to be convinced that this is the best mesothelioma treatment for them. Defining a new lifestyle as a “well deserved vacation” can help instigate a transition.

Mesothelioma symptom relief for physical pain from breathing difficulties can be provided by learning, advising and providing for the patient the best position of their body for proper air flow. A fresh stream of air from a window or a fan can provide mesothelioma symptom relief during breathing difficulty. Teaching the patient hyperventilation techniques can be very useful for the patient’s self-monitoring of their mesothelioma treatment. A mesothelioma patient with trouble breathing needs to learn how to purse their lips at the first sign of breathing trouble, stay calm, relax their shoulders, back, neck and arms, then “flop” themselves into relaxation. Until this technique is mastered, learning how to breathe out slowly is an important step in breathing management.

Mesothelioma patients must realize that anxiety breeds anxiety. If a patient is afraid that they are going to die at the moment they are experiencing breathing difficulty, their body will respond by producing more anxiety, and more breathlessness. This is an emotional and physical response, not merely emotional.

Oxygen is sometimes prescribed for mesothelioma symptom relief; however physicians report that some patients become unnecessarily dependent on oxygen. For other patients, oxygen is their lifeline of mesothelioma treatment. Oxygen therapy also requires a review of whether intermittent or continuous therapy provides the best relief for their mesothelioma symptoms. Mesothelioma treatment with oxygen therapy will also consider whether to use oxygen tanks or an oxygen concentrator.

There are also medications for mesothelioma symptom relief of breathlessness. Anxiolytic drugs Lorazepam, Diazepam, Midazolam, and Methotrimeprazine can be prescribed for mesothelioma treatment of breathlessness. Benzodiazepines are anxiolytic drugs that have a sedative effect and use muscle relaxation as pain treatment of breathlessness.

Mesothelioma symptom relief for breathing requires educating the patient, the caregiver and the family in palliative care. Mesothelioma treatment for pain also requires monitoring and adapting mesothelioma pain treatment plans to meet the patient’s medical needs, as well as their emotional needs. Listening to the patient’s perception of pain is crucial to determining the appropriate pain management treatment for mesothelioma symptoms. The patient feels the pain. With mesothelioma symptom relief and palliative care from knowledgeable and loving caregivers, the patient can enjoy the last years of their life as pain free as medical science allows.
